“I could be out here selling drugs, having sex with every tom, dick and harry!” “Everybody who’s living in the world is having a good ‘ol time!”
Yeah, they may be going to Hell, but at least they’re having a good time doing it. Why should I be a Christian? Why should I live holy? It’s not doing me any good. These are valid questions and issues that Christians deal with everyday. It is absolutely unrealistic to think that every Christian is completely removed from issues of the world and that we don’t struggle to live holy lives. No one is perfect, and if we were, we would have absolutely no purpose on this earth. So God gave us life, to learn His Word and to empower ourselves as Christians and bring others to Him. And though life is hard (no one said being a Christian was easy), the end result is so much sweeter when you dedicate your life to the Lord.
Bad Fortune.
Let’s examine the story of Job. Job had everything, or so he thought and in the blink of an eye, the Lord removed it all. Every single thing. His family, friends, home, all of his possessions. Everything Job knew, was no longer. But Job had amazing strength; his faith in God empowered him and in the end, God renewed him. We like to say that God restored Job’s life, but He actually granted him even more than what he had before,
“So the Lord blessed Job in the second half of his life even more than in the beginning.” – Job 42:12
When you are utterly hopeless, trust in God. He will never fail you, and time and time again, the Bible gives us examples of how God honors our faithfulness.
Also what Job’s story teaches us, is that when we pray for others, we also empower ourselves. In desperate times and situations, we must dig deep in our faith and remain strong – for that’s part of our purpose. Our life is not our own, but the Lord’s. “When Job prayed for his friends, the Lord restored his fortunes. In fact, the Lord gave him twice as much as before!” – Job 42:10
God Forgives.
Moses is one of the legendary leaders in God’s Word. But he was far from perfect. In fact, most of God’s chosen ones weren’t. That’s the awesome thing about God, He takes us in our brokenness and uses us for good we can’t even fathom. Moses killed an Egyptian, but God showed that He forgives even the deepest sin. When we commit ourselves to Him, He washes us clean and gives us another opportunity to live a good life and serve Him.
Let’s even look at the Israelites. In reading their story we look back and say ‘Wow, that was an ungrateful group of folks!’ I’d venture to say that’s the pot calling the kettle black. Just as the Israelites took their lives for granted, so do we. God gave them opportunity after opportunity and they still complained. And He still forgave them. Take a moment and reflect on how many times we complain during the course of a day. Too many to count, right? In these moments we must consider God’s goodness as He allows chance after chance to repent and get it right.
Faithfulness.
Now let’s look at the story of Ruth. Ruth’s husband died and she had an opportunity to go back to her native land. Instead, she chose to stay faithful to her mother-in-law, Naomi. In her faithfulness, God honored her and granted her a great husband and provider, Boaz. God honors faithfulness. Sometimes, actually many times, it may be easier to the wrong thing – but God wants to know that He can trust us to make the right decision. Which is exactly what Ruth did.
“But Ruth replied, ‘Don’t ask me to leave you and turn back. I will go wherever you go and live wherever you live. Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God.” – Ruth 1:16
Joshua, another great leader in the Bible, fared well because of his faithfulness to God. Sometimes what God tells us to do is not the most popular thing. People will question why and they may not understand. But in the end, God always has the glory.
“Joshua then commanded the leaders of Israel, ‘Go through the camp and tell the people to get their provisions ready. In three days you will cross the Jordan River and take possession of the land the Lord your God has given you.’” – Joshua 1:10-11
And they did just that. What Joshua’s story shows is that we need only to do what God tells us and more than likely, it will work out. At least it did for Joshua and his crew.
It even worked out for Rahab, a prostitute. Remember, it doesn’t matter what you do, in God’s eyes, that does not define you. He uses anyone to show His might and His power. Rahab confirmed her allegiance to the spies and the Lord moved on her behalf; protecting herself and her entire family during the raid of the city.
“…For the Lord your God is the supreme God of the heavens above and the earth below. Now swear to me by the Lord that you will be kind to me and my family since I have helped you.” – Joshua 2:11-12
Again, the Lord followed through on His promise.
One story that moves me every time I read it is when Jesus curses the fig tree. The gospel of Matthew recounts the story of Jesus passing by a fig tree and cursing because it had no figs and He was hungry, “May you never bear fruit again!” (Matthew 21:19)
What this story goes on to teach is that again, if we use the power of our faith that God has given us, we can do anything.
“Then Jesus told them, ‘I assure you, if you have faith and don’t doubt, you can do things like this and much more. You can even say to this mountain, ‘May God lift you up and throw you into the sea,’ and it will happen. If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.’” – Matthew 21:21-22
*The important thing to remember here is that what we ask for doesn’t always come to us on our time, but it does always come on God’s time.
Personal Growth.
God teaches us many different principles to live by to make us better human beings. He gives us the blueprint to get through difficult situations. This is how we need to live our lives.
“We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they are good for us-they help us learn to endure.” Romans 5:3
In this same passage, God gives us instructions on how to get through a difficult situation, but also how we become better people for it,
“And endurance develops strength of character in us, and character strengthens our confident expectation of salvation. And this expectation will not disappoint us.” – Romans 5:4-5
So even though you may say to yourself, ‘Man these worldly folk are chillin out here!’ (I’m guilty of it myself), always think of the outcome. I’d rather spend eternity in heavenly peace than the fiery pits of Hell. And that’s real talk.

Are you counted among the living or the lost?
Sometimes the choices we make send us to the land of the lost, a desolate place where God is not invited. When we refuse to welcome God into our thoughts and experiences, it is nearly impossible for us to feel His Presence in our hearts. We cannot be led by Him when we close the gates on His loving guidance.
Consider the story of the Prodigal Son. He had everything a young man could possibly want—a loving father, a rich land to inherit, and a bright future. But was that enough for him? No. He wanted his freedom from the efforts that a strong life requires. He wanted his inheritance immediately, before His father passed to heaven and left his lands and wealth to him. This was unheard of at the time, a great insult to his family. Oh, how his father must have grieved! But he did not deny his son his request. He gave him all that would be his, sooner rather than later, and the son left his family to go to a foreign land, where he lived a sinful life and squandered every last cent. It’s a fair assumption that he did not seek God in the choices that he made, and this separation from God was his undoing. Even the pigs had more to eat than he did! But this is not the end of the story for the Prodigal Son. And it’s not the end of the story for you or me, either.
I know because I am a Prodigal Daughter. In adolescence, I left my family and my God, believing the lie that without rules and boudaries, I would be happier by knowing a wider freedom. I made poor choices that hurt my family and grieved my God, but God never left me. He sent helper after helper to cross my path; He whispered His love for me so that I never forgot, even in my disobedience. The trail was long and arduous at times, but I followed. When I finally felt to my knees and re-surrendered my life to Christ, He held me tightly as fast, and made my paths straight again. It was then that I truly learned the Voice of my Shepherd.
Luke 19:10 says that Jesus Christ came to save those who are weak and lost. In the weakest moments of our lives, we often feel lost. We may wonder about our purposes, our directions, our situations, our futures. Our feelings are human and understood by our Lord. He always has an eye on us, no matter where we are in this life. We can never be so far gone that He will not seek us and find us.
Jesus, known as the Good Shepherd, will seek you out, and lead you back to Him. “What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if you lose one of them, does not leave the ninety nine in the wilderness, and go after that one lost one, until you find it?” (Luke 15:4). The outstretched hand may come in the form of a trusted friend or a relative stranger, a pastor or a grocery store clerk, a family member or a colleague. If you feel lost in any aspect of your life—your spiritual life, relationships, finances, career—surrender these concerns to God and then watch for Him to seek you out of the crowd where you stand.
God has the power and the desire to draw us back from the land of the lost to the land of the living. If you walk even a few feeble steps toward him, He will welcome you back to Him with open arms. Just like the father in the parable of the Prodigal Son, God will rejoice at your return! “For this son of mine was dead and has come to life again; he was lost and has been found. And they began to celebrate” (Luke 15:24-32).
Be counted among the living, not the lost. Make time to listen for the Voice of the Shepherd, and celebrate a faithful God and a blessed life!

“Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap” (Galatians 6:7).
All through the Holy Bible God reminds us, to give, to sow, to reap, to multiply, to plant seeds and reap harvests, to tithe, and to bring offerings. There are many scriptures regarding giving. Can we afford not to give? Giving not only includes money, it also includes using your time, talents, and skills wisely whenever needed!
Why Give?
The Holy Bible warns against those who trust in their wealth (Psalm 49:6; Mark 10:24). Our trust should be in God who gives us all things to enjoy so that we may do good works and be ready to distribute it (1st Timothy 6:17-18.
There are many scriptures that refer to the Law of the Harvest and are repeated throughout the Holy Bible. This principle can also be called “The law of reciprocity, which is evident in the physical world: for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Smile at another person and he’ll probably smile back at you” (Giving and Tithing).
In the book of Matthew, Chapter 20 Verse 28, it reads whoever wants to be first among you must be your slave. “That is what the Son of Man has done: He came to serve, not to be served—and then to give away his life in exchange for the many who are held hostage.” That bears repeating, “For even the Son of man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45).
You have seen the t-shirts, bumper stickers, coffee cups, towel, banners, books, and other objects with 3:16 engraved on them regarding John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” The writer is not suggesting that we repay God for sending His son, Jesus, to die for our sins. On the contrary, Jesus made the acceptable propitiation for our sins. “Propitiation refers to the satisfaction of the claims of a holy and righteous God against sinners who have broken His law. Jesus appeased God’s wrath by dying on the cross for our sins. Only Jesus could do this. His voluntary death for us satisfied the justice and holiness requirement of God (Nelson Study Bible, page 2029). How is your giving?
“Give and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you” (Luke 6:38 NKJV). The illustration of a good measure comes from the old time market places where grain was poured, shaken down, and filled so that it overflowed. As a result, the buyer received the full amount purchased and more. This type of measure will be given to the person who generously gives (Nelson Study Bible, Page 1703). Have you had your measure pressed down and shaken together? Did it run over? Examine your giving.
The Least of These
Scripture reads, we will stand before the judgment seat of Christ. Everyone will give an account to God. Can we afford not to feed the hungry, clothe the poor, visit the sick and give of ourselves? Can we afford to neglect the widows, orphans, children, elderly and anyone needing assistance? Remember the Scriptures in Matthew 25:37-40! If we neglect the least of these, we are neglecting Jesus. These Scriptures are not referring to unbelievers. Unbelievers do not call each other brethren. We should make sure that we are living sacrificially holy and acceptable to God. And guess what? That is our reasonable service (Romans 12:1-2).
It is a fact that a slack hand becomes poor (Proverb 10:4) and one who has pity on the poor lends to the Lord and our God will pay back what has been given (Proverb 19:17). “So let’s not allow ourselves to get fatigued doing good. At the right time we will harvest a good crop if we don’t give up, or quit. Right now, therefore, every time we get the chance, let us work for the benefit of all, starting with the people closest to us in the community of faith” (Galatians 6:9-10 Message Bible).
My grandmother used to sing the spiritual song titled, “Going to Shout All over God’s Heaven.” Do you remember it? Part of the song is: “Ev’rybody talkin ‘bout heav’n ain’t goin’ there (Negro spirituals.com). Will God allow us in heaven if we have not taken care of “the least of these?”
Who Supplies?
God. The Apostle Paul puts it eloquently in the letter to the Philippians regarding their generous giving. “And my God will liberally supply (fill to the full) your every need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:18, Amplified Bible).
It is God who supplies seeds to sow and bread for food. He supplies and multiplies the seeds we sow and increases the fruit of righteousness (2nd Corinthians 9:10). If we sow sparingly, we will reap sparingly. If we sow bountifully, we will reap bountifully. Each person gives as he purposes in his heart to give. Do not give if you feel you are being pressured to give or if you are in disagreement with your brother or sister in Christ. Renew your mind and get it right. God loves a cheerful giver. He is able to make all grace abound toward you, so that you will have enough and abundance (2nd Corinthians 9:6-9). Plainly stated, God will make sure you are taken care of so that you will be able to continue your generous giving. How is your giving?
The Tithe
The tithe is one-tenth part of something, paid voluntarily to support a religious organization. Today tithes are voluntarily and could be given in checks, cash, stocks or bonds. In the past, tithes were required to be paid with agricultural products (grown of the land, or fruit of the tree). It is interesting to note that some European countries operate a formal process linked to the tax system which allows some churches to assess tithes (Wikipedia). Imagine this practice being put into practice for Christians in the United States. Based on this system, it would be almost impossible for the needy to be without. Do the math! You will be surprised!
The author will not debate whether or not New Testament tithing is biblical. Psalm 24:1 states the earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof. The writer believes it was the late Evangelist Oral Roberts who stated when he gave it is as if he placed his tithes and offering directly into God’s hands. Would you give differently, if you imagined that you were placing into God’s hands what belongs to Him? What if God sent his angels to monitor our check books, debit cards, cash, stock, bonds, and 401Ks? Would the giving be at the same level as required by the guardian angel? Well, it should not be any different now. Remember the widow’s two mites. “Her devotion to God through her contributions was her first priority” (Nelson Study Bible, page 1741). There is no excuse for not giving. Is there?
“For we brought nothing into this word and it is certain we can carry nothing out” (1st Timothy 6:7). Dr. Billy Graham in his book, Faith Lifts: Finding Life’s Vital Connection…God, responded to the above scripture appropriately: “None of us brought anything into this world, and none of us will take anything out of it, so what makes us think that we have the right to hold on to anything in between. We need to stop grasping so desperately for things we can never hold onto anyway. There is nothing on this earth that we truly own; there is nothing that we control. Nothing! So, we should be content to enjoy what we have and what God blesses us with in this life while we can but not hold on to it too tightly because we will have to surrender it someday.”
In closing, God will not forget your work and labor of love. Continue to show your love! Keep giving!

On Fire 4 God!
I am convinced that we as the body of Christ tend to travail in prayer over things that God has already given to us or has empowered us to do on our own. It’s like your 9 year old child asking you over and over again for a glass of milk, when you’ve already empowered him to go into the refrigerator himself and pour himself a glass. And because of our ignorance of our godly inheritance as detailed in the Word of God, after spending countless hours and even years praying about the same thing, we grow frustrated, believing that God has ignored our request when that couldn’t be farthest from the truth.
It’s time for us to know, and I mean REALLY KNOW, who we are as children of God and what our godly inheritance entails. Sad to say, many of us only know that when we leave this earth, we’ll be with Christ for all eternity; which is beyond great! However, God gave us things for us to enjoy NOW, while on earth! He’s also given us ALL power AND authority over ALL the power of the enemy. And yes, while we may hear this Scripture quoted during Sunday service and though we ourselves may even quote this Scripture, half of us don’t really believe it while the other half don’t understand it enough to be able to practically apply it to our everyday lives. Lord, help us!
Over the next few weeks, I will be sharing in brief a few facts about WHO we are in Christ and WHAT we have in Him and HOW we can enjoy or deploy these things now, as God intended. Of course, my primary book of reference will be the incorruptible, infallible Word of God. I will also use other books written by trusted Christian authors who may expound upon a particular verse or topic in a way that makes it easier to understand; ultimately making it easier for life application.
To get the ball rolling, I am posting a prayer that I found in a book written by John Eckhardt titled Prayers that Rout Demons (2008). This particular prayer is titled Binding and Loosing, and is a prayer that I sometimes use in my own personal prayer/declaration time. Jesus said in Matthew 16:19:
“And I will give to you the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatever you shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatever you shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”
The Word of God also states in Proverbs 18:21:
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”
Beloved, God has given YOU as a believer great power, even right now; for you have your mouth speaking in agreement with the God’s Word which is a POWERFUL COMBINATION! I do recommend that you pray/speak/decree this prayer ALOUD after first reading it so that your mind/heart and mouth can be in agreement as you’re reading. Do know that these declarations are either actual Scripture verses or based upon biblical principles. Nevertheless, for some of you this may be the first time you’re praying such a radical prayer. In such case, if there is any particular prayer verse you don’t feel comfortable declaring as of yet, don’t! However, I do recommend that you research the verse from Scripture so that you don’t give room for the enemy to trick you out of victory.
Immediately following this prayer is my personal prayer for you, in the name of Jesus! Be encouraged and inspired!-
BINDING AND LOOSING
- I have the keys of the kingdom, and whatever I bind on Earth is bound in heaven, and whatever I loose on Earth is loosed in heaven (Matthew 16:19)
- I bind the kings in chains and the nobles with fetters of iron (Psalm 149:8)
- I bind the strongman and spoil his goods (Matthew 12:19)
- I bind leviathan and all proud spirits arrayed against my life (Job 41:5)
- I bind the principalities, powers, rulers of the darkness of this world, and spiritual wickedness in high places (Ephesians 6:12)
- I bind all sickness and disease released against my mind or body
- Let the exiles be loosed (Isaiah 51:14)
- Let the prisoners be loosed (Psalm 146:7)
- Loose those appointed to death (Psalm 102:20)
- I loose my neck from all bands (Isaiah 52:2)
- I loose myself from the bands of wickedness (Isaiah 58:6)
- I loose myself form the bands of Orion (Job 38:31)
- I loose my mind, will, and emotions from every assignment and spirit of darkness in the name of Jesus
- I loose my city and region from every assignment of hell
- I loose my finances from every spirit of poverty, debt, and lack
- I loose myself from all generational curses and hereditary spirits (Galatians 3:13)
- I loose myself from every assignment of witchcraft, sorcery, and divination
- I loose myself form every spoken curse and negative word spoken again my life
Heavenly Father, I ask that You help the person reading this prayer know who they are in You and all that You have placed within them. Father, I ask that you give them the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of You, and let the eyes of their understanding be enlightened; that they may know what is the hope of Your calling, what are the riches of the glory of Your inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of Your power toward us who believe. I pray, Father, that this day marks the start of sure transformation into Christ-likeness, and that they begin walking in your awesome power, as well as the obedience, humility and love of Christ. I ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Living the Good Life: Is Your House in Order?

We think we have it all together. We’ve got a nice car, a nice house but our kids are off the chain. Or maybe you’ve got a job that pays more than you ever thought you’d make in a lifetime, but you and your spouse aren’t speaking. One of the most important biblical principles is Godly relationships. In Godly relationships, order manifests. We must build our relationship with God first to obtain order in our households.
What many Christians struggle with is order. You can have the best job in the world, but if your relationship with God is not right, then you may be lacking peace in your life. At times we wonder why things aren’t working out the way we planned. Realize that we don’t have control over anything, but that God controls everything. When your relationship with God is out of order, your entire house falls out of order.
For example, your child may be struggling in school. He or she may have some discipline issues and you’re wondering why. You think to yourself, ‘I work hard every day to provide for my children and this is how they thank me!’ But you don’t set any time out for the Lord. You’re too busy with work and after school activities and board meetings, when the reason your life is so chaotic is because you’re not setting aside any time for God.
It really is a simple concept to understand. Think of it this way, when we place so much focus on our careers and making money, we’re essentially saying to God that money is more important than Him. Money rules us instead of God. The same can be said for relationships when we place more importance on people than Him. We walk around with our fancy cars and big houses boasting about how much we make. We always have to wear the newest fashions and spend ridiculous amounts of money on frivolous things. And we wonder why our children are off the chain and our marriages are failing. We are killing ourselves with vices of the world as Philippians 3:19 shows – “Their future is eternal destruction. Their god is their appetite, they brag about shameful things, and all they think about is this life here on earth.”
The truth is, God desires that we place no one and nothing above Him. When we can break away from the strongholds of worldly things and truly submit ourselves to God, our lives come into true order. Our house comes into order. Our marriages are healed. Our children are focused in school as well as home. We must build a foundation with God and His Word to establish order, as taught in Luke 6:47-48,
“I will show you what it’s like when someone comes to me, listens to my teaching, and then obeys me. It is like a person who builds a house on a strong foundation laid upon the underlying rock. When the floodwaters rise and break against the house, it stands firm because it is well built.”
Building and maintaining a relationship with God and placing God first creates order in our marriages, our families, our houses and our lives. God desires for us to prosper, but without placing Him first, we will never achieve our full potential. Our existence is meant to glorify Him and spread His Word. We can’t effectively do these things if our house is not in order. And if our house is out of order, maybe we should examine our relationship with Christ.
Is your house in order?
The Ultimate Test
Current Mood:

Faith-filled
One thing I’ve learned through my faith walk is that the closer we get to God, the more testing we must endure. And those tests become more and more strategic. To be a true Christian is to know God and to have relationship with Him. The closer we get to God, the more we learn that His ways, truly are not our ways.
The most recent stage in my faith walk has taken me on a journey from Virginia to California. I’ve made the ultimate statement to God, showing Him that I truly trust Him in every area of my life. I left a stable job, supportive family and great friends to move to an unknown land, upon God’s command and relying solely on Him.
The past three months have been full of excitement and difficulties. I learned and explored many new things and my relationship with God has grown stronger than it’s ever been. But this has been a true test of my faith – as I haven’t worked since relocating to California. God has not released my assignment in the natural to me yet. Though He has spoken life into my spirit on using the gift of writing to reach His people. And even though I have not found a job in the entire three months I have lived here, God has still provided for me, while allowing me to use my gift of writing to reach others. For me, Psalm 31:14-15 says it best:
“But I am trusting you, O Lord, saying, “You are my God!” My future is in your hands.”
I know that the Lord is the Author and the Finisher of my faith. I know God as a provider. And I know that He rewards His faithful servants. And I completely and totally trust Him because of that. So why would I stop believing in Him now when the going gets tough?
When you are going through a season of testing it is vital to pray without ceasing. Contrary to popular belief, God wants us to remind Him of what He has promised us. The book of Luke shows us that it is right to pray continuously: “One day soon afterward Jesus went to a mountain to pray, and he prayed to God all night.” Spend quality time with God. Pray more than once or twice a day. Be consistent. When you feel beat down and weary, pray. That is when God hears you the loudest. There’s nothing the Devil hates more than a Christian who continues to pray in spite of their situation. When you pray without ceasing, you are telling the Devil, “God has my back, so back off!” And our Father loves nothing more than when His children stand up for Him. When we stand up for our Lord, our Lord stands up for us.
It is important to pray continuously, but we must also know how to pray. When we come to the throne, we should always pray, “In the name of Jesus,” because Jesus is our Intercessor to God. Jesus is the One who is forgiving and asks God to forgive us. Pray with the power of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit provides protection and when we use that power, we are in essence, protecting ourselves while we pray. Address God as our Father, “Our Father in heaven,” as shown in Matthew 6:9. The Word teaches us the Lord’s Prayer, beginning with, “Our Father, who art in heaven…”
The most important part of prayer is recognizing that whatever we pray for, God answers it immediately. It is then our job to believe without doubt of exactly what shall come to pass. This is taught in Matthew 21:21-22:
“Then Jesus told them, ‘I assure you, if you have faith and don’t doubt, you can do things like this and much more. You can even say to this mountain, ‘May God lift you up and throw you into the sea,’ and it will happen. If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.”
So it is simple. Pray, release God to answer your prayer and have faith. Because we all know that faith without works is dead. I know that God’s assignment for me in San Diego is greater than anything I could have ever imagined. And I also know that God is a provider and He never starts anything without finishing it. I look forward to the promises that God has for my life through prayer, and you should too. Pray expectantly through every trial and test you may have in life because the outcome is always great.
“When Job prayed for his friends, the Lord restored his fortunes. In fact, the Lord gave him twice as much as before!” – Job 42:10
