Many times in our lives we have heard people say, “Let go and let God”. What does that really mean?  Is it just another catchy christianese statement that sounds good but has no biblical implications?  If we look at letting go and letting God we will realize that this covers many areas in the Christian’s life.  First we must learn to let go of our past sins and failures.  So many Christians become ineffective in the ministry to which God has called them because they can’t let go of their past sins.  The bible declares in Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God”.  Many people acknowledge their sin and readily repent for them but few find the path to forgiving themselves.  John 1:9 states, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness”.   God is faithful in His forgiveness but we often fail to forgive ourselves and decide instead to wallow in self-pity and shame.  This is a trick of the adversary who continually reminds us of our past transgressions so that we focus more on the wrong we did than on the good Christ did. As we continue to hold on to our past sins we fail to grasp hold to the absolute truth that we are forgiven thru the Blood of The Lamb.  We then make Christ’s crucifixion pointless.  We must relearn with each cleansing in Christ’s Blood that we become new creatures in Him and thru Him.  We must let go of our transgressions for if we do not we will surely perish in a mindset of doubt and question.  Stop beating your-self up over sins that God has cast into the depths of the sea (Micah 7:19).  “He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou will cast all their sins into the depths of the sea”. Don’t hold on to what God Himself has thrown away.

Another part of holding onto the past involves when others have done wrong to us.  All of us have had people to do us wrong (EVEN IN THE CHURCH – don’t trip).  Christians are not above making mistakes and acting ungodly.  We all (including me) have either done someone wrong or had them to do us wrong and we continued to hold on to that wrongdoing.  Many people hold aught in their hearts behind something that happened 10 years ago and they can’t even remember what was done just that Deacon Rabbi did something.  Paul tells us in Ephesians 4:32 “Be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you”.  We must operate in forgiveness towards others, remembering that God operates in forgiveness towards us.  We are even warned by Christ in Mark 11:25 and 26 that our failure to forgive others will result in God not forgiving us.  “ And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have aught against any that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.  But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.”  We must learn to let go of others wrongdoings against us so God will let go of our sins against Him.  Holding aught against another only leads to your own spiritual death.  Forgive your brothers and sisters so you can be who and what God intended you to be, a true believer. 

These two examples show that holding onto the past is destructive to your future in Christ Jesus as well as to your ministry.  Letting go and Letting God is not just another catchy church slogan to be put on a church sign.  It is a critical part to being effective in your ministry and being forgiven of your sins.  So let go of the past so you can grab hold of your future in Christ Jesus.

Then answered the Jews and said unto Him, “What sign showest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things?” Jesus answered and said unto them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”  John 2: 18 – 19

As Jesus spake to the Jews in this passage of scripture, He was informing them that He would raise His body from the dead 3 days following His crucifixion.  This statement was perhaps one of the most profound moments in Christ’s ministry.  He was not just stating that He would somehow be resurrected but rather that He would resurrect Himself.  This was unbelievable as once a person is dead, we believe they can have no power to do anything let alone raise themselves from the grave.  To the Jews back then as to most humans today, death is seen as the end of all things.  It was considered by many to be foolish talk that one could come back to life.  Yet Christ BOLDLY stated that He would do what all believed to be impossible. 

Many of the disciples who had walked and ministered with Christ saw death as the end as well.  Even Peter (Petros- little rock) became fearful for his own safety following the arrest of Christ.  He became so fearful in fact that he denied Christ three times as he stood warming himself by the fire made by the servants and officers (John 18: 15-27).  Peter also went into hiding (John 20: 19 part A) following the crucifixion of Christ from fear of the Jews.  “Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews.”  We can’t look upon Peter’s fear with disgust because if the truth be told, we would have done the same thing.  It is human nature to be fearful of death of the body as our natural minds see this event as completion of all things pertaining to us.  Peter, as well as the other disciples, thought that the ministry of Christ was over with the death of the Messiah.   It was not that they did not believe in the resurrection but it required supernatural faith to believe that Christ would be raised from the grave.  As the women went to the sepulcher to anoint Christ body (as was their custom) something happened.  On that third day, something… miraculous…. happened.       

Two angels were found sitting in the sepulcher, one at the head and the other at the feet where the body of Christ HAD lain (John 20: 12).  But where was the body of the Messiah?  Had thieves come and taken Him away in the night?  Had the Jews removed His body to make a mockery of His bold statements? What happened to the body of our Messiah?   The answer, He was RESURRECTED from the dead!!!!!  But how do you know this to be true?  How do you know?  After Christ appeared to His disciples inside a locked room (John 20: 19 part B) [“came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you] those same individuals came out from behind those doors and began teaching and preaching Christ with a new found boldness.  (Mark 16: 20) “And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.”  They were no longer fearful of being killed.  What could make people that were afraid for their lives come out and face death without fear?  Knowing that they could be crucified like Christ.  What would give these disciples such courage, such bravery and such faith?  Seeing that Christ had fulfilled His promise to resurrect, knowing that He had power over death/grave and knowing that life with Him is eternal is the only way to explain such amazing faith.  If Christ had not resurrected, the disciples would have probably went into exile and no longer preached the gospel for fear of persecution and death.  The disciples of today are now able to face persecution for their faith just like those disciples of old.  What gives us such boldness and such faith? The answer my friend is the same today as it was back then, if there was no Resurrection, there would be no faith.

Many people desire the anointing that they see in others and often wonder why they don’t have the same.  As we explore the truths of the scripture on this subject let The Word speak to you in spirit and truth. 

1 John 2:20 states “But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.”

The word unction in this scripture simply means anointing.  John is referring to the indwelling of The Holy Spirit (anointing) that will reveal all things to us.  This can only be accomplished according to the will of God, which determines when, what and to whom truths are revealed.  This is the anointing that so many seek as they progress in their relationship with God.  The anointing (indwelling of the Holy Spirit) combined with the fear of God brings about a divine understanding of the scriptures. 

Proverbs 1:7 states “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.”

We must operate within the realm of fearing (reverencing) God to gain the anointing we so desperately desire.  The indwelling of His Spirit will guide us to fear God in a manner that is pleasing to Him.  This will open the doors for wisdom and instruction to be received by the seeking believer.  The fear of God doesn’t make one not approach The Father but rather draws one to the very foot of His throne.  As we come before the throne seeking answers from The Father, the fear of Him humbles us so that we can receive what He has for us.  The ability to come before the throne is available to all who have realized that they need a savior. 

This is in contrast to the teachings of the Old Testament where the anointing was set-aside for only kings, priests and prophets.  The anointing we seek is not for a select group of individuals but is available to all.  It has been made available to everyone who believes in The Lord Jesus Christ  thru the sacrifice of Christ’s crucifixion.  The door has been opened for all sinners (man/woman) to be saved by His death, burial and resurrection.  The saving grace that comes thru the shedding of The Lamb’s blood allows us to receive the anointing, which is The Holy Spirit.  There are some today that still believe that the anointing is only for a chosen few but our God is no respecter of person.  All who will submit their lives to The Lord Jesus The Christ can attain this spiritual anointing.  The word Christ itself means The Anointed One as in the one sent from The Father.  As the blood of The Lamb transfigures and transforms us we must as Paul admonishes, “put on The Lord Jesus Christ.”  In order to put on Jesus we must have the same mind in us that was and is still in Jesus.  This mindset was the one, which allowed Christ to be obedient, even unto death.  As our mindset is changed and our old stony heart renewed, we then become anointed.  This occurrence causes us to yield our lives over to God for the purpose of performing His service.  Thru this anointing, our lives are no longer our own but are now tools for Him to use.  As we abide with Christ, His blood will continually cleanse us from all unrighteousness (Romans 3:24-26). 

“Being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in His blood, to declare His righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

To declare, I say, at this time His righteousness: that He might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.”

As the cleansing progresses, the indwelling of The Holy Spirit will become more abiding. 

1 John 2:27 “But the anointing which ye have received of Him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in Him.”

Christ’s blood secures us so that The Holy Spirit may anoint a person’s heart and mind with the love and truth of God.  As you continue to seek your anointing (unction) remember, it’s free, secured and available to all thru The Lord Jesus Christ.  So go to Jesus and get your anointing.   The Spirit is waiting.
